User experience (UX) has become an essential element in the video game industry, where professionals must evolve in line with ongoing social and technological changes. The Microcredential in UX for the Video Game Industry is designed to train professionals capable of creating optimal, intuitive, and highly immersive gaming experiences, enabling them to add value from the outset in a rapidly growing sector.
The relevance of this microcredential is reinforced by the sustained growth of the video game industry in Spain, which reached a turnover of €2.408 billion in 2024 and a community of more than 22 million players (source: AEVI – Annual Report 2024). This context highlights the growing demand for qualified UX professionals who can ensure high-quality gaming experiences and strengthen the competitiveness of the sector.
The programme offers comprehensive training focused on user (player) research, user interface (UI) design, accessibility, and a gender perspective, all specifically applied to video game platforms and ecosystems. Through a unique practical project, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the Player-Centred Design methodology and the Player Experience (PX) approach, while developing a project that they can include directly in their professional portfolio.
The course methodology is inclusive, flexible, and practice-oriented, making it suitable for both newcomers to the field of UX and more experienced professionals. It promotes practical, contextualised learning that is closely aligned with the realities of the video game industry.
The programme will be taught by Dr Ruth Contreras, who has many years of experience in the fields of user experience, multimedia, and video games. As an ambassador for Women in Games and co-founder of the Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA) in Mexico, she ensures training based on the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge in the field.
