Only behind London and Singapore, Barcelona once again ranks among the world’s top cities for attracting foreign investment in artificial intelligence.
Barcelona consolidates its position as one of the leading cities for attracting foreign investment linked to artificial intelligence (IA). For the second consecutive year, the city ranks third globally, behind only London and Singapore, and holds the top position within the European Union. The data comes from IBM Consulting’s Global Location Trends report, which analyses international business investment projects announced in 2025.
Barcelona’s strong positioning comes against a backdrop of growth in Catalonia’s AI sector, which is now home to nearly 500 specialised companies, generating a combined turnover of more than €2.155 billion and around 14,500 jobs. During 2025, several multinational companies also strengthened their presence in Catalonia through new hubs, innovation centres and R&D projects focused on AI.
Artificial intelligence is also one of the priority sectors in the Catalan Government’s strategy to attract and retain foreign investment for the 2026–2030 period.
