New local production system using additive manufacturing to automate industrial laser-cutting processes.
Four Spanish companies – Snelloptics, Mapsi Photonics, CD6-UPC and Monocrom – have participated in the OPTILASER project coordinated by secpho to create a new production system that optimises the manufacture of industrial cutting and welding lasers. The new system manufactures the parts needed to couple the optics of these lasers locally, eliminating the dependence on third countries that the Spanish market currently has for this type of service. In addition, the new method, based on additive manufacturing, allows parts to be obtained up to 90% faster, at a lower cost and without generating waste.
On the other hand, the results of OPTILASER are also applied in the development of infrared thermal emitters (MIR), widely used for the selective detection of gases, in order to optimise their design and reduce their production costs.
This May we presented the results to the secpho ecosystem because of the implications of this breakthrough for the deep tech technology being developed in Spain.
The initiative has received funding from the Next Generation EU funds, channelled by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, within the support programme for Innovative Business Groups.
