Photonics node

As an exponent of one of the 5 Key Enabling Technologies (KETs), the impact of photonics is very cross-cutting and can give value to sectors as varied as health, communications, the environment, aerospace and many others. That is why the photonics node extends its area of influence to other nearby technological sectors. By strengthening its links of interaction with all these other technological environments, it can help to provide more comprehensive solutions to companies both locally and elsewhere, covering needs along the entire value chain and strengthening industrial, technological and knowledge ecosystems in Catalonia.

The photonics node provides specialised technical advice on the use and possible applications of specific instrumentation and techniques (i.e. nanofabrication and nano-characterisation, advanced engineering, biology laboratory, post-processing techniques and more.) These are ad-hoc activities that can be tailored to the needs of the interested party.

The following infrastructure access services are made available to companies:

  • The use of the photonics node’s Super Resolution Light Microscopy and Nanoscopy (SLN) equipment provides advanced imaging instrumentation and related technologies to help the biomedical sciences to solve difficult challenges that cannot be addressed with current technology. The SLN is equipped with state-of-the-art microscopy techniques that operate a step beyond the commercial state-of-the-art in imaging and nanoscopy techniques. Available facilities include advanced photography and fluorescence techniques, super-resolution imaging, light sheet microscopy and Raman imaging.
  • The NanoFabrication Lab (NFL) is a cross-sectional facility dedicated to the manufacture and characterisation of nanostructured photonic devices. This lab includes state-of-the-art nanofabrication tools and techniques for a wide range of optical applications, ranging from biosensitivity to optical communications, and covers a wide range of materials, including polymers, semiconductors, metals, crystals and others. The lab also includes tools for the advanced characterisation of materials and devices.
  • The goal of the Advanced Engineering Lab (AEL) is to bring stakeholders closer to the latest technologies in electronics and precision mechanical engineering. The lab provides state-of-the-art tools for electronic design, assembly and characterisation, as well as micromechanical engineering. Applications range from state-of-the-art devices for ultrafast space and optoelectronic communications to ultra-sensitive devices for quantum, nano and biophonic optics, the optimisation of optical systems and the design of new optomechanical elements.
  • The Biology Lab (BIL) is a cross-cutting facility with the aim of providing scientific assistance and technical support to stakeholders in the handling, preparation and maintenance of biological samples. The Postprocessing Laboratory (PPL) is designed to support the processing, manufacture and characterisation of optical materials and components for research and industry stakeholders.
  • Electronic prototyping service: design, construction and testing of advanced control circuits for prototyping or short series of electronic boards, including PICs, FPGAs, microcontrollers or precision control of motors, especially for their integration into instrumentation.

Els Innovation Workshops estan dirigits a generar projectes d’innovació col·laboratius entre investigadors, empreses tecnològiques, empreses usuàries finals de sectors industrials.

SECPHOLAND

Secpholand és un entorn virtual interactiu que funciona com una plataforma online col·laborativa basada en elements virtuals que permetin la interacció entre tot un ecosistema d’innovació. La plataforma funcionarà en el núvol i permetrà la generació de connexions i col·laboracions al llarg de la cadena de valor de producció de tecnologies deep tech, des de la transferència de coneixement fins al mercat.

Accés a finançament per PIMEs i startups

Com a servei complementari a les activitats de recerca i transferència de tecnologia, s’ofereixen serveis d’orientació a PIMEs i startups amb necessitats de finançament de la innovació. A partir de les necessitats de l’empresa i del nivell de desenvolupament i TRL disponible (pre-diagnòstic tecnològic), s’orienta en les opcions de finançament públic i privat. Quant al finançament públic, es disposa d’experiència en les diferents convocatòries del sistema català, espanyol i europeu, i es troba connectada a traves de clústers i plataformes per oferir la capacitat d’identificar potencials partners per a projectes d’R+D en col·laboració. Quant al finançament privat, es té experiència amb fons de capital risc, business angels, i associacions relacionades.

Industrial Photonics - Formació

S’ofereix formació especialitzada sobre l’ús i les possibles aplicacions d’instrumentació i tècniques específiques (és a dir, nanofabricació i nano caracterització, enginyeria avançada, laboratori de biologia, tècniques de postprocessament …) Són activitats ad hoc que es poden adaptar a les necessitats de l’interessat.

Els entrenaments es poden realitzar en diversos microscopis, incloent microscòpia confocal, STED 3D, STORM, microscòpia no lineal, microscòpia Raman i microscòpia de fluorescència de fulla lleugera (LSFM).
